vEVEREST CHALLENGE’S

Results to date

Cycle the height of Mount Everest (8,849m / 29,000 ft). Three different awards are offered. This is an open challenge and you can achieve the awards numerous times. The Half Everest award can not be also used for any of the other Everest awards.

  • 10k or above (single ride)
  • 10K or above (within a week)
  • Virtual Everest (Single ride)
  • Virtual Everest (within a week)
  • Half Everest (single ride)

To be admitted into the Virtualbrevet Hall of Fame you must complete one of the following based on the award you want to achieve.

  • Virtual Everest
    • If you meet the conditions for everesting.cc you will be admitted to the Virtual Brevet Hall of Fame. ie to go up and down the same hill till the height is reached.
      • Due to the lack of opportunities in Rouvy and other platforms the following is acceptable:
        • The ride must be completed as a single ride at 100% reality
          • No sleeping is a criteria for everesting.cc but we cannot enforce this and we trust that you will follow the rules.
        • The route chosen does not have to go up and down the same hill. eg Virtual route – vEverest ride at Banks Peninsula (rouvy.com)
          • If you are on the Rouvy leaderboard
            • This indicates that you have completed the ride at 100% reality.
            • Also to be on the leaderboard you can only have up to a 2 hour break at a time and so it is easy to verify that even if you did sleep it would be no more than 2 hours at a time before the app times out and closes your session. To be on the safe side we do not recommend stopping the trainer for more than an hour.
        • The same ride (that includes an ascent and similar descent) can be repeated back to back, over and over till the height is gained. In Rouvy if you use Just Ride mode you can move your lollipop back to the start just before you finish thus enabling the ride to show as a single ride. eg Virtual route – Saddle Hill (vEveresting loop) (rouvy.com)
        • Different rides that have a similar ascent and descent can be completed back to back as in the previous point.
  • 10K or above as a single ride or within a week
    • There is no category to select for this, the Hall of Fame will show all rides that ascend greater then 10K along with the associated Everesting award which will show if it done as a single ride or over a week.
  • Virtual Everest in a week
    • As per all the conditions above but you have a week to complete the activity.
      • This includes 2 weekends.
  • Half Everest
    • Complete a ride that ascends half the height of Everest (4,424m / 14,515ft)
    • This must be done as a single ride or a combination of rides completed back-to-back.
      • Use the above guidelines for using more than a single ride.
    • Any ride over 4,424 and less than 8,848 will show in this Hall of Fame.

To be admitted into the virtual Hall of Fame on everesting.cc you must complete the following

  • The 8,848m/29 029ft is taken as your total elevation gain
  • It does not matter how long the ride takes, but it must be ridden in one attempt (i.e. no sleeping in between). Breaks for meals etc. are fine. You can break for as long or as little as you like. Bear in mind break times add up quickly, and can add significantly to your elapsed time.
  • Rides can be of any length, on any hill or mountain within the Zwift, RGT, Rouvy, or Race Republic framework. Essentially anything that has a vertical gain can be used to complete an vEveresting.
  • Rides must only focus on one hill or mountain per ride. You cannot ride different routes on the same mountain. If there are 4 routes, that means there are 4 possible ‘vEverestings’ (think of it like the North and South face of Everest).
  • Rides cannot be loops. The descent must be via the same road.
  • Rides must be full ascents each time. You can’t commit to a combination of full and half laps within the one vEveresting attempt.
  • The exception to full repeats of the same section/segment of hill is once you hit 8,848m you can abandon that repeat (although we highly recommend bagging ‘just a few’ extra metres.. just in case!)
  • No need to stay on the trainer on descents. Depending on the hill you have selected, there could be a long descent (i.e. Alpe du Zwift is around 10mins, or RGT’s Stelvio 15minutes) and the level of difficulty for this challenge is not increased by sitting on your saddle waiting for your avatar to descend. Feel free to use this time to top up food, take a change of clothes, have a stretch etc.
  • We only accept vEverestings completed on an electronically controlled smart-trainers.
